1) Can the system be used in refurbishments, warehouses etc (retrofit)?

Yes the Batten and Cradle system excels in this area as it has a commercial, retail and sports floor Loading Certificate with the ability to hide all services under the floor with access panels placed where required.

2) Can the system be used in new work after the Architect has drawn up the plans?

It is advisable to have the Architect include the system in his plans due to height being a common issue.

3) Do you install throughout New Zealand?

Yes. However, we wish to appoint more approved qualified Installers throughout New Zealand. As we will not allow an unapproved Installer to install the system, as this would impact on our warranties and certification. If you are interested in becoming one of our licenced installers, please call us for more details.

4) What is your lead time?

Subject to the size and location of the Installation, approximately 4 weeks from order date.

5) Do you have any Certification?

Yes we have Certification from the Auckland University and Marshall Day Acoustic Engineers. These reports can be found in the Downloads Tab of our site. Structural Rated Floating Floor Report is available on request.

6) Can the system be used in exterior applications? e.g. decks

Yes, with the battens being treated H3 for use outside as per Local Council specifications, used together with our DekCradles, decks and balconies can make excellent use of Batten and Cradle. Our DekCradles are available to order in our online store.

7) Does the system have a green star rating?

Although Batten and Cradle does not currently hold a Green Star Rating, our certified system can help to create thermal and acoustic efficiency- to assist you reduce your carbon footprint.

Assisting you build a green building, you will be happy to learn that all the components of the acoustic and structurally certified system, are made of recycled or sustainably managed materials- all sourced from New Zealand.

9) Can the components be purchased separately?

This is a proprietary system to necessitate a structural rating. To maintain its certification on completion, it must be installed by a licenced installer as a complete proprietary system. For use in exterior applications, our DekCradles are available to order.

10) Am I able to view an installed or display floor?

11) What is the minimum height floors of the B&C system?

Option #1: Acoustical rated floor - 72mm with a 30mm batten (Please Note: Low Profile Block is on Special Order Basis only with a minimum order quantity), or 82mm with a 40mm batten. (Standard Block - Ex Stock)
Option #2: Non acoustical rated floor - 50mm.

12) Can any internal walls or partitions be erected on the floor?

Yes, this system has a structural rating in New Zealand for internal walls. Masonry internal non load bearing Partitions should be erected from the sub-floor and not on top of the Structural floating floor. Lightweight timber or metal stud partitions with plasterboard linings and glass internal partitions may be constructed directly on the structural floating floor.

13) Can the system accommodate under floor heating?

Not at this stage, however this is currently being reviewed.

14) Can ceramic tiles be used on the flooring system?

Yes ceramic tiles have been successfully laid on the cradle system in numerous projects over many years. There may be a need to change cradle distances and hardness values of cradles, however the risks can be significantly reduced by good detailing and the use of modern, flexible adhesives.

15) Are any of the B&C components imported?

No, all components are New Zealand sourced to the highest quality. Even the old recycled tyres…

16) Is there a fire rating on the system?

The system has the same rating as other floor coverings such as carpet etc. as it is also a floor covering.  

17) I want to install a DekCradle system for myself. Are there any instructions on installation and spacing requirements?

Yes. However, there are no acoustic or structural compliance certificates or producer statements will be issued to cover your installation.

18) Can the DekCradles be used under tiles for exterior decks etc?

Yes.
